The CIA is planning to introduce a new artificial intelligence (AI) tool aimed at enhancing the ability of its analysts to access open-source intelligence, according to a Bloomberg report. This tool is expected to expedite the process of sifting through public data for investigation leads. This development comes after criticism of the current data processing methods' speed. While specifics regarding the model of AI and its privacy protections were not disclosed, the tool will reportedly adhere to U.S. privacy laws and be available across 18 U.S intelligence agencies.
As reported by Bloomberg, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is set to introduce a new artificial intelligence (AI) tool to enhance its analysts' ability to access and utilize open-source intelligence. This new tool, which agency officials forecast will be launched soon, will help in sifting through public data for insightful leads in their investigations. According to the agency's division director, Randy Nixon, the evolution of data gathering has continually grown from newspapers and radios to the internet and now, AI. Critics have previously raised concerns about the CIA's current data processing methods, saying they are lacking in speed. The forthcoming tools, as per Bloomberg's report, will allow users to trace the source of the information and also have an inbuilt chat feature for easier interaction. Nixon assured that the AI tool will strictly adhere to U.S privacy laws, although he didn't reveal the AI model they would be adopting or its privacy safeguards. It is reported that this tool will be made available across the 18 U.S intelligence agencies, such as the CIA, the National Security Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and other military agencies. The CIA's move towards adopting AI follows other governmental agencies who have begun to employ AI for their operations. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), for instance, under the chairmanship of Gary Gensler, has confirmed the use of AI tools for monitoring the finance industry for possible fraudulent activities.
