Bitmain Introduces New Air-Cooled Bitcoin Miner 'Antminer T21' With Price Protection Plan
Summary:
Bitmain, a leading Bitcoin (BTC) ASIC manufacturer, has unveiled its new air-cooled BTC miner, the Antminer T21, at the Blockchain Life 2023 Forum in Dubai. The miner, which can operate in temperatures up to 45 degrees Celsius, supports the SHA256 mining algorithm used for mining Bitcoin and other PoW cryptocurrencies. Shipments are expected to start in January 2024. Bitmain also offered a price protection plan to Antminer T21 buyers to safeguard against fluctuations in BTC prices.
Leading Bitcoin (BTC) ASIC manufacturer worldwide, Bitmain, has launched its latest air-cooled BTC miner, the Antminer T21. The firm used Twitter to announce, on Oct. 26, the global launch of their new creation, designed to operate in environmental temperatures up to 45 degrees Celsius. Bitmain's marketing manager, Xmei Lin, unveiled the Antminer T21 at the Blockchain Life 2023 Forum in Dubai, an event where Bitmain was a primary sponsor. The company expects to begin shipments of this new mining device in January 2024, a Bitmain representative told Cointelegraph. This cutting-edge miner can mine proof-of-work (PoW) cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and forked Bitcoins such as Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Bitcoin SV (BSV), using the SHA256 mining algorithm. The T21 boasts a computation capacity of 190 terahashes per second and an energy efficiency of 19 joules per terahash. A price protection plan offered by Bitmain was also available to Antminer T21 purchasers, ensuring mining profits even in the event of a crypto price fall. Available until Nov. 25, 2023, this plan provides customers security against BTC price drops for a time frame of one, three, or six months. If the BTC price dips lower than the specified price on any day within the protected period, Bitmain pledges to compensate in cash immediately. Bitmain, with its various mining devices, competes with ASIC miners from other companies, including Canaan, MicroBT, Bitfury, and more. Canaan, formerly named Avalon, was one of the pioneering companies to produce a Bitcoin mining ASIC in January 2013, allowing mass-scale cryptocurrency mining with its significant hashing power upgrade compared to GPU and CPU configurations. Ten years on, in the middle of September, Canaan launched its new A14 series miners, marking its 10th anniversary. On Oct. 26, Canaan launched in the Middle East its new miners, the A1466 and A1466I, featuring both air-cooled and liquid-cooled options. Despite Bitmain and Canaan's efforts to introduce advanced mining devices, the ASIC industry has faced hurdles in recent years. As Cointelegraph reported, the price per terahash of ASIC miners experienced an over 80% decline from its 2021 peak by the end of 2022, as the market was inundated with new miners. In August 2023, Blockstream, a blockchain technology company, sought to raise $50 million to buy and preserve mining equipment on secondary markets, anticipating the Bitcoin halving in 2024.
