In an effort to minimize power consumption in Bitcoin mining, Bitdeer reveals that the SEAL04 chip is to power the fourth-generation SEALMINER machine. Mass production and delivery of this power-efficient machine are scheduled to commence in the latter part of 2025. The machine's power usage is designed to perform at optimized rates of 5.5-6J/TH, significantly below the typical 29J/TH.
With power consumption being a major concern in Bitcoin (BTC) mining, efforts have been ramped up by mining firms to lower power usage. In the wake of mining bans in places like Kazakhstan, miners have generally shifted to greener grids in North America or self-sustaining off-grid locations. Earlier in March, Bitdeer reported successful preliminary testing of the SEAL01, a 4-nanometer Bitcoin mining chip, which delivered power efficiency of 18.1 joules per terahash and was implanted in its Sealminer A1 mining rig. Developed with a semiconductor maker's 4-nanometer process tech, the SEAL01 chip was advertised to reach an 18.1 J/TH power efficiency rate.
A critical component in the crypto mining process, chips are hardware elements that enable the intricate computations essential for validating and securing transactions on the blockchain. The introduction of the SEAL04 chip comes a week after Tether made a deal with Bitdeer to acquire $150 million worth of shares through a private deal, as per an official announcement on May 31. Paolo Ardoino, Tether’s CEO, regards Bitdeer as one of the most impactful vertically integrated operators in the Bitcoin mining industry, attributing the company's success to its groundbreaking technologies, strong R&D operations.
In May 2023, Bitdeer Technologies Group partnered with Bhutan's sovereign investment authority, Druk Holding and Investments (DHI), to establish environmentally-friendly, carbon-free digital asset mining facilities in Bhutan.
