Billionaire Marc Cuban Makes Major NFT Sales Amidst Email Security Breach
Summary:
Following almost two years of inactivity, billionaire Marc Cuban's crypto wallet initiated the sale of various non-fungible tokens (NFTs). These transactions generated roughly $38,533 over the past two days. Additionally, Cuban plans to list his Hashtag NFT #MFFL and BibleNFT Deuteronomy 25:4 for over $66,000 combined. If he successfully sells these premium items, Cuban's wallet's total transactions could exceed $100,000 within two days. This NFT liquidation coincides with a recent security breach of his Gmail account, though whether the incidents are connected remains unclear.
After a dormancy of nearly two years, Marc Cuban, the billionaire investor, was recently detected liquidating a series of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) from his cryptocurrency wallet. On 23rd June, Cuban's wallet, registered with the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) under the domain "markcuban.eth", began offloading NFTs, the portfolio of which encompassed EulerBeats Genesis, DeepBlack NFTs, Pudgy Penguins and Wrapped MoonCats. The last transaction from this wallet dates back to January 13, 2022, when the tycoon last retailed a Roc Aero Pitch Deck NFT for $33.73. Over a span of two days, Cuban unloaded 14 NFTs amassing roughly $38,533. The investor's Pudgy Penguin #6239, valued at 9.06 Wrapped Ether (WETH) or approximately $30,578, was the priciest NFT that were put up for sale. The remaining NFTs were offered for amounts between $22 and $1,800. Meanwhile, Cuban also disclosed plans to auction two high-ticket NFTs. His Hashtag NFT #MFFL is listed for 15 Ether (ETH), an estimated $50,000 value. A BibleNFT called Deuteronomy 25:4 is also being offered for 5 ETH or nearly $16,000. Should these two NFTs find buyers, Cuban's wallet would have transacted over $100,000 in NFT sales in just two days. Coinciding with the NFT sale was a security breach where Cuban's Gmail account was infiltrated post a deceptive call received on June 23. Cuban alerted via social media that any communication received from his Gmail account after 3:30 pm PST was not from him. By June 25, Cuban had regained control of his account and acknowledged Google for their support. Whether the cyber attack and the NFT cashout are connected remains uncertain. In 2023, Cuban experienced a heist when by approximately $870,000 in crypto assets was stolen from one of his crypto wallets. Record from Etherscan highlighted consecutive transactions with USD Coin (USDC), Tether (USDT) and Lido Staked Ether (stETH) debited from Cuban's account.
