Anthropic's AI Chatbot Claude Debuts in Europe with Multilingual Prowess
Summary:
Anthropic, the AI development firm, has extended its AI chatbot Claude's services to Europe. Accessible through its web app and iOS app, Claude boasts fluency in several European languages. The move follows the US launch of Claude 3, an advanced system capable of image analysis. Earlier this year, Anthropic introduced Claude API in Europe, enabling developers to embed Anthropic’s AI models into their applications or websites. The quality of written content produced by Claude has been appreciated in comparison with its rival, ChatGPT.
Anthropic, the firm behind artificial intelligence (AI) advancements, has unveiled its AI chatbot, Claude, for European audiences, personal and commercial, as per a recent blog post. As of May 14th, the remarkable AI assistant can be utilized through its web application or iOS app, claiming exceptional understanding and speaking prowess in various European languages - French, German, Spanish, and Italian. This release follows the US debut of Claude 3 - a highly advanced system capable of image analysis - in March 2024. Before this, Europeans could only gain access through a virtual private network (VPN). Anthropic rolled out the Claude API in Europe a little earlier this year, providing developers with the opportunity to implement Anthropic's AI models into their software, websites, or services.
Following the European launch, Anthropic was contacted by Cointelegraph to obtain further specifics. Users on platform X have responded to Claude's European arrival, stating that while ChatGPT is superior in terms of reason and logic, Claude outperforms in written eloquence. To evaluate the quality of their writing, which is somewhat subjective, our Europe correspondent, Savannah Fortis, subjected Claude 3 and ChatGPT to a direct comparison, utilising the free versions of both chatbots.
In response to the request to compose a brief poem about Europe, both chatbots acknowledged key elements of numerous European countries. However, Claude's poem, while concise with few stanzas, was more coherent and offered a more holistic narrative. ChatGPT, on the other hand, produced attractive thematic rhymes, though they appeared more like a compilation of phrases than a comprehensive story.
Anthropic, established in 2021 by ex-OpenAI members, has over the past year received financial backing from several technological powerhouses, including Amazon, who pledged an investment of up to $4 billion in September 2023, and Google, who committed $2 billion the succeeding month.
On April 5th, Anthropic introduced a beta version of its feature 'tool use' exclusively for the Claude suite of generative AI models, for Anthropic Message API users. This allows looking up real-time information, accessing, and integrating third-party features as a part of Claude's workflow. Users can add code snippets to their accounts so that Claude can incorporate exterior data into conversations.
