Google Integrates Ethereum Name Service Data into Search Results, Streamlines ENS Domain Transitions with GoDaddy

Algoine News
Summary:
Google has incorporated Ethereum Name Service (ENS) data, sourced from Etherscan, into its search results. This enhancement allows ENS addresses to display pertinent details like Ether (ETH) balance and recent transaction time. Google's engagement with crypto and blockchain technologies continues to increase, first offering native Ethereum wallet balance support in 2023, and later extending this feature to ENS domains in 2022. Additionally, a collaboration between ENS and domain registrar GoDaddy has eased the transition of traditional Web2 domains to ENS domains, presenting DNS domain holders with enhanced control over their decentralized identities.
Google, the technology titan, has made Ethereum Name Service (ENS) data accessible via its search engine through information sourced from Etherscan. This development was brought to light by Brantly Millegan, an erstwhile member of the ENS main team, and was later verified by Cointelegraph, using several ENS addresses, including Vitalik Buterin's personal address, Vitalik.eth. The search result exhibited details such as the Ether (ETH) balance of the address and the timestamp of the latest transaction, data that was obtained from Etherscan, the Ethereum block explorer. ENS is a service that simplifies using internet wallet addresses, in much the same manner as domain names do. This lets you share a straightforward ENS address like yourname.eth instead of intricate numeric codes โ€“ much like using domain names for faster, more direct web access rather than IP addresses. Google has progressively engaged more with cryptocurrency and blockchain technologies, including native Ethereum wallet balance support, launched in May 2023. In its early stages, users could simply search for a specific public wallet address and view the balance straight from the search results. This feature has now been extended to include ENS domains. In 2022, Google worked in a crypto feature which allowed some Ethereum wallet addresses to have their Ether balances monitored directly through the Google search engine, removing the need to visit Etherscan. Han Hua, the principal at Google Ventures, unveiled this feature in a post on October 11. In the same year, Google began a countdown to the Ethereum Merge event with a synchronized animation of pandas. The company also revamped its crypto ad strategy to incorporate "Cryptocurrency Coin Trusts", which lets investors trade shares in trusts that contain digital currencies. This change resulted in Bitcoin ETF products from leading asset managers such as BlackRock appearing in search engine results for phrases like "Bitcoin ETF". On February 5, Ethereum Name Service (ENS) publicized a collaboration with domain registrar GoDaddy to allow the Web3 community to connect their .eth names (or domains) freely to conventional Web2 domains. The coordination between GoDaddy and ENS has eradicated the obstacle of steep gas fees that formerly deterred users from transferring domain names to ENS. Smart contracts for resolution have been launched by ENS to facilitate this free transfer. As a result, holders of DNS domain names can now exert better control over their own decentralized identities, facilitating a new form of self-governance.
