Here, heat is disseminated from a central source through a web of insulated pipes to numerous buildings. The new scheme is fashioned to enable households to profit from industrial BTC mining. Jaran Mellerud, the co-founder of Hashlabs Mining, stated on X on April 23 that the company wants industrial consumers such as Bitcoin miners to assist Finland in augmenting the use of its vast nuclear power plant for heat production. Already, a local associate of Hashlabs has incorporated two Bitcoin mines with district heating utilities and currently in the process of assimilating a third, as reported by Mellerud. According to a report, the scheme by Hashlabs specifically exploits the hot water resulting from WhatsMiner M63S mining, which can attain temperatures up to 70 degrees Celsius. The co-founder of Hashlabs asserted, "Bitcoin mining offers the most dependable, high-temperature water for district heating." The hot water created by the WhatsMiner is primed to supplant the heat produced in power stations using fuels such as biomass and other carbon-neutral thermal sources, in addition to peat, solid coal, and others. Data from Statistics Finland shows that as of 2019, the primary source of district heat in Finland was wood fuels, contributing 35%, followed by solid coal, which provided 18%. Peat was the third most significant energy source in district heat production in 2019, with a 15% contribution.
